Expression of Interest – Ombudsman for the Northern Territory and Information Commissioner

Applications are invited for the position of Ombudsman for the Northern Territory and Information Commissioner.

Applications are invited for the dual position of Ombudsman for the Northern Territory and Information Commissioner. This statutory officer is responsible for resolving complaints about NT Government agencies and the conduct of NT Police Officers under the Ombudsman Act 2009, and for promoting the Freedom of Information and privacy protection provisions of the Information Act 2002. This position is also required to fulfil the obligations of the role of Principal Officer to support the Judicial Commission and the role of an interim National Preventative Mechanism of the NT.

We are looking for a high level performer with excellent interpersonal, negotiation and leadership skills and the ability to communicate views with clarity and authority. Candidates must have broad experience in complaint resolution services to the public, demonstrated strategic policy development and problem solving skills and capacity to effectively manage the operations of the Office.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate impeccable integrity, the capability to develop and maintain constructive relationships at all levels of the

NT Government and professional networks, and the ability to drive and implement change. Significant achievements in public administration and a Bachelor of Laws and/or post graduate qualifications in a relevant field is desirable.

Remuneration is at the Executive Contract Officer Level 5 ($328,632-$360,163). Commencement is sought from November 2024 for a 5 year term.
