A group of enthusiastic young people from Palmerston and the Northern Suburbs joined Yarraman Territory in an action packed horse ride and three night camping adventure to raise awareness about the importance of strong mental health and wellbeing.

Ten young people participated in the inaugural Ride for a Cause event which saw them travel from Howard Springs to Gunn Point on horseback. Additional young people joined them each day to share in the ride and activities.

The use of horsemanship is gaining momentum nationally and internationally as an innovative way to engage people of all ages.

The project challenged the participants as they rode and cared for the horses and set up camp each evening. They also learnt about employment opportunities with horses from the Cattleman’s Association and NTPFES Mounted Police.

The project was led by Yarraman Territory with support from the YMCA, PaRBA, YORET and City of Palmerston, and funded by the NTG through the Darwin and Palmerston Youth Activity Grant.
